FAQ

Here are some of the frequently asked questions many people have about our swim team.

My child can’t swim so they can’t be on the team, right?

We will allow children to swim with the use of kick boards as long as they can do so for the length of the pool without a helper in the water by time trials.

What if my child doesn’t want to swim in meets?

You don’t have to compete but we think it can be a very positive thing for a swimmer to boost their self-esteem. We have a meet once per week and it is exciting to watch all the kids compete in their age group and work as a team.

We are going on vacation this summer. What happens if we miss swim team practice?

The majority of our swimmers take vacations or attend camps over the summer. They miss practice…it is okay! Please let the coaches know if they won't be at practice. Sign your swimmers in and out of meets on Swimtopia. We are done with practice by the end of July so swimmers also have August free!

Do I have to attend practice with my swimmer?

For our younger swimmers (8 & under), we ask that you attend or have someone be there in your place. Older swimmers do not need parental supervision and many ride their bikes or walk to the pool.

When are practices?

After school practices will start the day after Memorial Day. Starting mid June (after school ends), practice will take place each morning. After school practices are: high & middle school from 3:30-4:30, elementary school & younger from 4:30-5:30.

Morning practices begin once school is let out; 11 & older from 9am-10, and 10 & under 10am-11. Optional make-up practices on Tuesdays & Thursdays 5:30-6:30pm beginning the following week after school ends. The coaches may decide to adjust the groups based on numbers and ability as needed.

What does my child need to wear?

We ask that swimmers wear a plain royal blue swim suit for swim meets. We get a small percentage back from this link: https://www.swimoutlet.com/account?view=team-dash... brand does not matter! For practices, any color is fine, but we do ask that girls always wear a one-piece suit! Swim shirts are also allowed for practices but not meets. VPSU also has a rule prohibiting tech suits.

What are my commitments as a parent?

Swim meets cannot take place without parent support. We require each family to sign up to volunteer for half the meet (if you have a swimmer participating in the meet). In addition, we ask for donations to sell at concessions for our home meets. It could be as simple as a case of water or if you enjoy baking it could be cookies or cupcakes. Concessions income helps us pay our coaches and for equipment.
