Swim Meet Basics
Hurray, it's meet day! Here are a few pointers on what to expect:
Some items you might find helpful to bring with you are: caps, goggles (maybe two!), water bottles and snacks, chairs or blankets, towels, bug spray and sunscreen, cards or games for the waiting between events, money for concessions, and a change of clothes following the meet.
Arrival
When you arrive please be sure to have your swimmer ready to get in the pool. Arrive before warm-ups to allow your swimmer to get settled. Make sure that your swimmers know what events they are swimming. Heat sheets will be published on Swimtopia the day of the meet and will be posted at the meet.
Warm-Ups
Swimmers should be behind the blocks at their designated time for warm-ups. This is an opportunity for swimmers to get to know the pool and get themselves ready for the meet. Warm-ups can be often crowded with meet set up happening all around, so be sure your swimmer is ready at their assigned time. Home meets warm-ups arrive 4:30 PM and Away meets at 5 PM.
Volunteer Check-In
Volunteers should check in at the Volunteer Table with the Volunteer Coordinators for their assignments. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated at that time.
The Meet
As the meet progresses, there can be some waiting between events. Please listen for the announcer to help your swimmer arrive at the correct lane on time for their events. Events are identified by an event number, description, heat number, and lane assignment. Many swimmers choose to write this information on their arms.
Be quiet for the start of each event and then CHEER for swimmers!
Remind your swimmer to visit with a coach after each event for feedback.
Stay for the entire meet to encourage your swimmer to cheer for their teammates and get caught up in the excitement of the relay events at the end of the meet.
Post-Meet
Please stay for a few minutes at the end of the meet to help clean -up. Many hands makes light work!
